The Quick Start Guide To This Exciting Sport

Florida Surf Fishing Tournaments

You can find surf fishing tournaments in Florida everywhere. They’re not just for experienced surf anglers. You’ll find newbies and anglers of all ages and skill levels fishing the surf in hopes of landing a winning catch. Whether you plan to enter one or just be there as a spectator, it’s a great way to experience what this fantastic sport is all about.

Many anglers overlook surf fishing as an outdoor sport because it is very rarely publicized. Television shows and magazines pass over it because their advertisers don’t support any media content that isn’t able to push expensive product. It’s not like other forms of fishing where they can advertise expensive boats, electronics and gear. Surf anglers don’t have to spend much money to enjoy this sport.

Consequently you won’t find much media content about this phenomenally exciting sport. Once you experience this for yourself, you’ll never want to go back to any other kind of fishing.

One of the reasons there are so many tournaments in Florida is because it’s a mecca for surf fisherman. Florida has so many varieties of saltwater fish that can be caught from the surf it’s amazing. It’s also a year round activity there because there’s always something to catch from the surf line.

Plus there are so many miles of coastline open for surf casting it’s unlike any other state. In Florida you are never more than an hour and a half from the coast no matter where you are. Virtually every resident can enjoy this sport without traveling too far.

Residents aren’t the only ones who you’ll see fishing in the tournaments. Return visitors come from all over to be part of the action. It’s a great way to combine a vacation getaway with some surf fishing fun, not to mention the warm sunshine and the beaches.

Some species migrate and are more seasonal but others are always in the surf zone. When the migrating species show up in certain areas the fishing explodes with action. You’ll wear yourself out landing one fish after another.

When the season comes around for different migratory fish to show up, that’s when you will see tournaments posted for entries. Saltwater fishing forums will post upcoming tournaments and pictures of results for lots of tournaments, especially the big ones.

If you are really adventurous there are several shark fishing tournaments throughout Florida. Though I don’t recommend a shark tournament for beginners. Landing and handling sharks (usually released afterward) takes special skills and more than one person to do it.

Even if you don’t think you are ready for a tournament it’s worth it to attend. First of all it will get you all pumped up to go out and do it but more importantly you can learn an awful lot about it from those in it. There not catching fish every minute and are more than willing to share some of their knowledge with a new upstart.

Don’t just take my word for it. Get a surf rod, some surf bait and try it for yourself. It’s not about whether you win anything in a surf fishing tournament, it’s about the whole experience.

Another good thing about surf fishing is you get to enjoy it three times. Once while you’re planning and thinking about it. Again when you’re actually doing it. And a third time when you reminisce about how much enjoyment you had while you were doing it.
